The proposal for Piazza dei Martiri, inspired by the Renaissance period, establishes a balance between the ground level and the monumental architecture which overlooks it. The redevelopment of the whole pavement returns continuity between vertical and horizontal surfaces, through a modern design, and by creating outdoor living spaces. The existing Liston becomes a predominant line, with the function of open-air gallery for exhibiting sculptures. The northern base of the Liston and the enlarged Greek fret in the north part of the garden, serve as elements of conviviality outdoors, as if the Greek fret carries the memory of the ruins, similar to stones that evoke ancient origins. The diaphragm dissolves the boundary between the garden and the square. The terraces overlooking the Liston and the areas designed as a Greek fret, appear similar to small outposts, dominating the view and providing a classic evocation of the podium, while the porch enriches a dehors area. A system of paths, linking the existing ways and crossing the square slow down the pedestrians to visit the existing garden. The redevelopment of the green is critically redesigned as an archeology: the garden by Alpago Novello and its paths are covered with grass, in addition to the proposed track placed over the existent path. The idea develops two paths, the first of the roots, which turns around the fountain, while the second rising from the fountain becomes a podium addressing a natural amphitheater, formed by the garden of the world, consisting of various existing trees, such as the Atlas cedar, the Lebanon cedar, the Himalayas cedar, the Maritime pine, the Yew tree, the Sequoia from California and the Thuja tree. Finally the original fountain is maintained while ivy on the edge of the pool helps to re-naturalise the garden.
